AFYA Serengeti, rabies control project

An example of our global values and the reach you and your customers can have every time you vaccinate, this program provides doses of canine rabies vaccine to help eradicate canine and human rabies in Tanzania - a serious issue impacting animal and human health, particularly for children. Ask your representative for more information on this worldwide program and how it can bring a new level of outreach to your practice.

Making strides:

The project’s successes since 2003 include:

  • Hospitalizations due to rabid dogs bites have been reduced by 93%
  • Rabies has been eliminated from the Serengeti National Park itself and the adjacent Ngorongoro district
  • There have been no reported rabies outbreaks in areas where a 70% vaccination rate has been achieved
The AFYA Serengeti team remains committed to maintaining vaccination coverage, working toward the eventual eradication of rabies in the region. Because of the remarkable success of vaccination efforts in the Serengeti, plans are also underway to expand the project into other countries.
